Our History

The Library at Cedar Creek Lake has a history that reads like a fairy tale. From its humble beginnings in the 1970’s as a bookmobile that stopped in front of a grocery store in Seven Points, it grew steadily, but slowly, moving from storefront to storefront as its book collection and services expanded. In 1996, the library’s name changed from Henderson County Library-West to Cedar Creek Library. Shortly thereafter, the first lady of Texas Laura Bush spoke at a fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Six weeks later, the Economic Development Corporation of the city of Seven Points, Texas (population 723) appeared at a library board meeting and stated that they wished to build a new building for the library. An agreement was reached in late 1997. In 1998, the name of the library changed to The Library at Cedar Creek Lake. Now, because of the vision and foresight shown by local people, business leaders, the Seven Points Economic Development Corporation and countless volunteers who worked selflessly the library has become the most important cultural symbol in the area.
